Goals

So, tomorrow is New Year's Eve and it will have been a whole year since I posted this short list of goals for 2011. If you know me in person or have been reading my blog for a while, you will know I've made a fairly pitiful attempt at them. I haven't been back to Australia... though I have been on more domestic plane trips than ever before my in my life so that's got to count for something. I've been just as terrible with remembering to take my medication, though have made a much greater effort with taking iron pills regularly after my energy levels hit rock bottom a couple of months ago. I'm not one for regularly weighing myself, but I'm confident I haven't lost 10kg this year. I will say I've become ever-so-slightly fitter though, and have managed the occasional run which is unheard of for me. I haven't created enough artwork for a solo exhibition, though I've definitely put a lot more effort into my work than ever before. The last goal is the only one I completed successfully- I got a new tattoo. Though it's still only half-finished.

The most important goal I have for 2012 is to quit smoking and get healthy. Honestly, there's a large part of me that doesn't want to quit. I know it sounds silly, but I like the sense of purpose it gives me on breaks from work- finding a nice spot (either in the sun, or sheltered from the wind, depending on the season) to sit and have a smoke and a think. I hardly ever drink anymore, so smoking at pubs isn't really an issue for me. The hardest part of giving up is that I like going outside for a smoke with Charlie in the evenings at home. We're usually playing games (him), or watching TV (us), or painting (me), and it's a great excuse to just stop for a few minutes and have a silly chat together. Or see who can stand on one leg for the longest, as we did last night. I haven't yet bought one of the electronic cigarettes because I've been too poor after Christmas, but I'll definitely make it one of the first things I buy in 2012. I swear.

Most of my other goals are the same as before. I want to go back to Australia. I want to create a lot more artwork. I want to get my tattoo finished, and start on a new one. I need to take my medication more often. And I want to continue running, and do so much more often. I think I might also start making monthly mini-goals, but we'll see how that goes.

Are you making goals or resolutions for 2012?

When I smoked, I really enjoyed it. I knew the health risks and I knew it would kill me but I still kept smoking. Quit when you want to, or it won't work. Good luck!

Sounds good!
I can't relate to the smoking thing because I never started, but I do love sitting by myself and thinking, although I don't care whether or not I'm physically doing something like "smoking" while I think!

We have similar goals. I want to make art, and become healthier. Slowly get my life together.

Life's so short...
