Moving!

Dismantled bed.

The moving van... I think we did about four van loads and three car loads.

View from our new bedroom of Wellington, on our first evening in the new place! Such perfect moving weather. If you click this photo you can just see the windmill on Brooklyn hill.

Wallace and unorganised animals.

Living with boys means living with cables.

Books in the lounge.

1/30 Apartment Tour

Today I am beginning Faute De Mieux's 30 Day Blog Challenge. The best part about it is that basically there are no rules, but it's a great way for a bunch of people to get shit done. Click here to see others who are taking part, and here to read the original post on it.

My own personal challenge isn't really something I can fail at, but it's still going to be a mission to get done... As I mentioned, we are moving house next month, so my 30 Days will be a documentation of packing our apartment, moving, and setting up in our new place. We'll see where that takes us on this blogging journey!

I thought I'd start with this video tour of where Charlie and I currently live. We have been here a year now and it's been really fantastic- I'm going to be a bit sad about leaving I think. At the start of 2010 year I was flatting after living by myself, and was really hoping to find an apartment on my own again. I was also thinking about how great it would be to live with Charlie, but I wasn't going to suggest that. Luckily, he did. We got this place pretty quickly, after I hit refresh on TradeMe immediately after it was listed. The apartment happened to be right next to where I was working at the time so it was super convenient, but it's right in the CBD so has also been great for my current job and Charlie's.

I would say the only think I don't like about this apartment is the concrete walls- it takes a lot of adhesive to get posters to stay up, and you can forget about hanging most framed pictures! Even 3M hooks, applied following their instructions exactly, fall off after a day or two.

A Belated Wallace Wednesday

Sunday, February 13, 2011

Like, Christmas.

Now I don't mean to get all 'interior decorator' on yo' ass, but my parents visited on Friday and brought with them a couple of super awesome gifts! Well, technically two 'long-term loans', one of which I had already made not-so-subtle hints about wanting, but still- exciting!

I got a Bell valve AM radio that was my Grandad's (Dad's dad). We tried it out and it does work, except the concrete walls of my building make the reception pretty shitty and it obviously only picks up AM stations. So it's just going to be a cute retro ornament in my kitchen.

I also got a retro rocking chair, which Charlie is not so fussed on, but I think is adorable! Both items need a bit of a clean, especially seeing the dust under the rocking chair in that photo! They'd just been in storage in my parents' garage, so it's nice to get them out on display.

Christie Wright/Apartment

The painting I won from the very talented Christie Wright arrived today. My camera is sadly getting crappier and crappier no matter how much time I spend playing with the settings. So apologies for the grainy quality of my photos. One day I'll have the income to permit purchasing a DSLR...

On Saturday my Mum flew to Blenheim to visit some of her relatives, so I went with Dad to take her to the airport, and we spent some time watching planes near the airport which was nice. When I got home I still had a few hours before Charlie was due home from work, so I got stuck in and cleaned then re-arranged our bedroom. Our view probably isn't a selling point for most people, but after spending the first 17 years of my life with farm land out the window, I really love the grungy, inner city outlook of our apartment!

Labour Weekend

I know I am kind of being a hypocrite in light of this satirical post from last month! But I went hard out cleaning our apartment over the long weekend, so I'm uploading some photos both to show you, and as somewhere to store them for the future. I've lived in seven different places since moving out of home, but I only have a handful of photos of the interiors of my old flats. It's nothing terribly fancy, but I love our apartment.
