Waikato/Bay of Plenty; Magic

On Friday night our (Charlie and I's) friend Dylan arrived from Auckland to stay for the weekend. I already had flights away booked when he decided to come down, but it worked out well that we got to hang out for one night (and for Charlie to have non-Wallace company while I was away).

On Saturday morning I flew to Tauranga via Auckland to stay a couple of nights with my friends Sarah and Jo. My flight from Wellington was delayed, but luckily Air New Zealand was a lot more onto it than when my regional flight was delayed last time. My flight to Tauranga was held for those of us traveling on, so I was super thankful not to have a frantic sprint through Auckland Airport like last time (when my name was repeatedly called too - embarrassing!)

I spent the afternoon hanging out with Sarah, and the weather was sooo much nicer than in Wellington - could definitely forget it's winter for a little while. We had some drinks on Saturday night and then slept the whole morning away on Sunday - it was brilliant.

Once we dragged ourselves out into the real world on Sunday afternoon, we went off in search of brunch/all-day breakfast, which strangely is not a very popular thing in Tauranga - it really should be considering the weather and beachy scenery! We did manage to find a breakfast menu at SteakOut, and the Eggs Montreal I had was delicious. After than, we visited Jo at her work - Tauranga Art Gallery - and I got to see the Brian Brake photography exhibition which I'd been to lazy to visit when it spent several months at Te Papa in Wellington. As I'm sure most of you locals already know, it was really stunning (I was seriously slacking in skipping it).

I didn't really take any photos until yesterday (Monday) when we went to visit my (older) sister in the Waikato, where she lives with her family on a dairy farm. If I thought Tauranga's weather was nice, the weather on the farm was in a whole different league, for that afternoon at least. Sarah was babysitting a couple of kids for the day, and they had a good time playing with my nephew while we scoffed cake and doughnuts in the sun.

I'm pulling out the biggest cheeseface in every photo taken of me yesterday. That's what a three day weekend does to you.
