Snow Envy

A few of my overseas Instagram followers have been surprised to discover we're trucking on into winter here in New Zealand. The news reports are weather, weather, weather this week after a large amount of snow fell in parts of the South Island yesterday. I'm hoping we'll get lots of snow again in the lower North Island this year, but I guess it's unlikely to happen right in the city again.

Early yesterday morning (pre-dawn) when I got up for work it was raining heavily, and a bright flash of lightning through the bathroom window gave me a huge fright in the shower! A few more flashes and loud rumbles, and then it was all gone again... leaving us with drizzle and icy wind. Yay.

Anyway, one of my favourite NZ bloggers, Jo at Lost in the Haze, has posted some beautiful outfit photos taken in the snow yesterday - go and check them out.

High and swift.

Yay, I won a cute little Air New Zealand USB stick keyring from their Twitter account last week, and it arrived yesterday! I have slowly accumulated a lot of aeroplane 'memorabilia' over the past few years, most significant of which is my tattoo obviously! But today I thought I'd show you guys the four little aeroplane necklaces I now own.

Top left is a Karen Walker camouflaged fighter jet necklace Charlie gave me. Probably the only KW I will ever own! Unless I carry through with actually making fashion more of a priority. Top right is a silver Pascoes pendant I got for my recent birthday from my wonderful friend Sarah. Bottom left is a cheap biplane pendant I bought from a little kawaii-type shop in the Left Bank mall. It's made of very soft metal, so the propeller's coming loose, the wings bend, and the wheels have come off... but I got good use out of it while it lasted! It's very, very similar to this listing on Etsy, so who knows where they actually come from. And bottom right is an adorable paper plane I also got for my birthday, from my longtime penpal and wonderful friend Anna.

As I was writing this I remembered three more plane-related jewellery items I didn't photograph! Maybe my slightly obsessive aeroplane collection will have to become a bit of a feature.

It's 10am on Saturday morning, and as usual it's freezing cold and raining outside. I hate winter. It's just so miserable. Not sure what I'll get done today, although I got a new tshirt and ring yesterday, so will have to take photos at some stage! A bit of cleaning probably wouldn't go amiss either. I find it so difficult to leave the computer/TV when the boys are at work and there's no competition for it! But I really should make my days off more productive... Also the reveal date for our first Monthly Painters' Challenge is coming up this week, so I better put the finishing touches on mine!

Have a great weekend, I'm sure you'll hear from me again later.

Winter clothes/YSL

I am so very excited about paying cheaper rent in our new flat from next month, and therefore being able to afford to buy winter clothes. A decent winter coat. Hats. Boots. A haircut. Looking out the window today you would think winter was the last thing on anyone's mind in these parts, but step outside and it's pretty damn chilly. Lots of sunshine, but dry and cold. Just the past couple of days have reminded me how bitterly icy Wellington can get, and we have only just passed through summer.
